Should you buy a single family home or a condo? Here's what you need to know.

Erik:
It's about lifestyle. Stay tuned.

Randal:
Welcome back to Stay Focused, Focus Real Estate's weekly, yes, weekly video series. And we're here to talk about, should you buy a single family house or a condo? We get that question a lot.

Erik:
And here in the city of Boston, depending on the neighborhood overall, I think the city of Boston is like less than 20% single family houses.

Randal:
And then really what it comes down to when we're chatting with our clients, when they have that option, right. Should I be looking at singles? Should I be looking at condominiums? It's really about lifestyle. What do you want to be doing with your time? Right. So with a single family house, you can talk about an old Victorian being a labor of love. You can talk about a brand new construction being a labor of love, because houses are work. They require a certain amount of maintenance and upkeep that you're going to have to take on whether that's hiring people to do it or doing it yourself. And Erik and I both actually, I kind of think we enjoy that part of owning a single family house. Enjoy that-

Erik:
We've certainly taken that on, so.

Randal:
Keeps us out of trouble. But some people don't want to be bothered. I am much better in a high rise building where I can come and go as I please.

Erik:
Just lock the door and have someone else take care of those things. It's also affordability, your lifestyle. In certain neighborhoods, you just don't find single family homes that are maybe in your price range that you can afford. Condos come in a lot of different sizes.

Randal:
We're talking with our clients and they're asking us these questions about, do I buy a single, do I buy a condo? And a lot of people do default to that single family home ownership. We kind of try to dig in a little deeper and ask them what they're looking for at the end of the day. Because many times for a lot of our clients, a great townhouse can work beautifully where you're in some common ownership. You don't have a ton of exterior space and you can share some of the responsibilities with the other condo owners. If you want it in a nutshell, it's really about lifestyle. So really asking yourself the tough questions about really what you want out of your home, what you're making this purchase for and how you want to live. So, anyway, I hope that's helpful. If you'd like to discuss it a little bit more, you know I like to talk. So give a shout and let us know how we can help. And until next time, stay turned.

Erik:
Stay turned and stay focused.

Randal:
Stay focused.

Erik:
What's your lifestyle? Stay tuned.
