This past weekend, Jamaica Plain came together to honor the life of Beth Stacy Perez, a beloved figure who dedicated over 25 years to serving the community as a postal worker. Known for her warm smile and friendly demeanor, Beth was a fixture in the neighborhood, touching many lives with her kindness and dedication.

Beth, who passed away on November 18, 2023, after a courageous battle with colorectal cancer, was celebrated on August 24, 2024. The memorial event began with a heartfelt gathering at the Loring Greenough House from 1 to 3 PM, where friends, family, and community members shared stories and cherished memories of Beth.

Beth’s love for Jamaica Plain was evident in everything she did. She was a staunch supporter of local businesses and a familiar face at neighborhood restaurants like VeeVee’s, Evergreen Cafe, and Juicygreens. Whether enjoying a meal with loved ones or taking her dogs, Rocco and Diesel, for a walk, Beth’s presence was always a reminder of the vibrant, interconnected community she cherished.

Following the celebration of her life, attendees walked to the South Street Mall, where a bench was dedicated in her honor. This special tribute is located near the tennis, pickleball, and basketball courts—a spot where the community can continue to remember and celebrate Beth’s enduring impact.

Beth’s journey began on May 14, 1965, in Randolph, MA. She was born to Ronda and Richard Goldstein and grew up with her siblings, Michelle and Steven. Beth’s career with the US Postal Service began in 1993, and she retired in 2021, having spent the entirety of her career in Jamaica Plain. It was here that she met her husband, Jerry, and became a cherished member of the community.

Beyond her professional life, Beth was known for her love of food, nature, and reading. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of life—morning coffee, gardening, and solving puzzles with her husband. Her phone was filled with pictures of nature, reflecting her deep appreciation for the world around her.

Beth is survived by her husband, Jerry Perez; her mother, Ronda Goldstein; her sister, Michelle Utegaard; nieces Karissa and Makenna Utegaard; and step-daughter, Stephanie Perez. She is preceded in death by her father, Richard Goldstein, and her brother, Steven Goldstein.

Beth’s legacy is one of love, community, and the importance of living life fully. As she once shared with those close to her, “memento vivere”—remember to live. In honoring her memory, we are reminded to embrace each day with the same spirit that Beth embodied.

We invite everyone to visit the bench dedicated to Beth at the South Street Mall, a place where her memory will continue to inspire and bring comfort to those who knew and loved her
