0 Salt Island, Gloucester, Massachusetts 01930 - Nestled off of Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester, Massachusetts, Salt Island is an unimproved, 5-acre island with an incredible history. It is believed to be named Salt Island because an English ship stored salt and other fishing provisions on the island in 1623, and the salt disappeared before another ship returned shortly thereafter. The island also served as a movie set in 1919, when a castle was built and later blown up, and was previously home to a few lobster shacks. Showings available only at low tide!
